REDI Facts:

Solar Energy – not just the suns rays captured by solar panels or photovoltaic (PV) system. Solar Energy is also responsible for generation of wind, another renewable energy source. The sun is the engine powering PV and wind turbine systems.
Avg Sun possible: Kansas City, MO 60% See NOAA Forecast
Avg Wind speeds: Kansas City, MO 10.66 (data collected over 30 years)
Potential rooftop space for PV installation in US: 6 to 10 billion sq meters (even after 35% to 80% eliminated due to shading and inappropriate orientation)

Wind Turbine Facts

Name: Vertical Axis Twin Rotor Turbine Horizontal Rotation
Foundation: Concrete
16 feet square
42 inches deep
Turbine: Each 2.5 kW section (without pole in the middle) = 7500 lbs
Pole: Three 19-foot sections
1500 lbs
5kW = power to generate 80 60-watt light bulbs
Wind speed: 6 mph to make power
ALH does not store power, will use power generated
ALH base usage = 13 kW per hour (average over 24 hours)
Wind speed to reach 5 kW is 11 meters per second
Manufacturer: Alternative Energy Solutions (Formerly Aeronet)
Assembly Time: 3 days
Hoist: 1 day
Current Wind Speed at Location (per recorded anemometer)
Avg night – 5.25 mph
Avg day – 12 mph
Cut-Off Speed: Cut off at 20 meters per second
Wind speed: 6 mph to make power. Turns at 6-7 mph (2.24 meters per second). When up to 10 mph more energy produced. 15-20 significant energy produces (about 6 meters per second). Annual avg wind of 8 mps, (20 stories up in Chicago or San Francisco are about 8 mps). Western Kansas gets significant winds of 8 mps.
Max turbine speed: = 25 mph wind speed, maximum to 39 mph until it furls.
Max power will serve ALH with 1/3 of daily power use
Why this turbine style vs. typical horizontal blades?
Minimizes bird kill because birds can see it. Minimizes ice throw due to slow turn speed. No noise. On a typical 3-blade horizontal turbine, the tips of the blades are going faster than the middle, thus creating sound. This turbine spins at the same rate of speed as the wind, thus producing no noise.

Core Technology

The performance of AeroNet's turbine is optimized in the multi-space formed by the rotor inlet angle, the blade solidity and the diameter height ratio with the guide vane angle. The "Inlet Guide Vane (IGV)" plays an essential role of minimizing the effect of negative torque generation and accelerating the incoming jet into the rotor blade. The "Top Guide Vane (TGV)" recovers the energy by collecting air streamlines into the rotor blade again, which otherwise would simply pass by. The chart shows how rotor efficiency is increased up to 54% with IGV and TGV.
